The perfect candlestick?
- By Johannes de Vries
What do I need?
We also offer a wide range of different types of candlesticks. We want to make that decision easy for you:
We have divided the candlesticks into 4 different sections in height : small, medium, large and candelabra. By this we mean the size in length.
How much light do you need? The room stand is suitable for one candle and a candlestick for up to 6 candles. You can also find pairs or sets of 4.
With silver you have different types of silver content . We offer the sterling silver standard, which means that 92.5% is silver. In England you rarely find the Brittania silver, which is 95.8%.
In the Netherlands, for example, you will find sterling silver, but also 2nd grade 83.5% or 3rd grade 80% silver.
You can have gilded silver, the French call that Vermeil. That means that the silver candlesticks are gilded with a thin layer of gold.
What does the weight tell you?
You can have cast silver, which means the weight you see and feel is pure 92.5% silver.
Room candlesticks are always unweighted, as are the detachable arms of candlesticks.
The candlesticks can be weighted. This offers the candlesticks more protection and gives the candlestick more stability with candles. They can be weighted with resin, plaster, wood or other materials. Another reason for weighting is that when you hold the candlestick, you want to have a serious weight in your hands.
Amount of decoration and style ? You can find simple ways of decoration, but also the neoclassical style, Art Deco, Art nouveau/ Jugendstil, Arts and Crafts, Sabbath, Telescopic, Regency or Modern.
We can't hide our age , but candlesticks can!
It is incredible to see the immaculate quality and condition after over 250 years. The earliest candlesticks we offer begin before the birth of Napoleon, who was born in 1769, and progress to a range of more recently made candlesticks.
Certain eras are also described as Queen Ann, William, Georgian, Edwardian and Victorian.
We hope this information helps you decide which candlestick is right for you. If we can help, please ask!
